Prepare yourself for the daunting task of locating seven notebooks scattered throughout the school. Each notebook contains invaluable information vital to your progress. However, beware! Baldi is not just any ordinary teacher but a mathematical prodigy. Are you up for the challenge? Put your math skills to the test and face Baldi head-on!

Gameplay

In this narrative, we assume the role of a young protagonist who has been entrusted by a friend to retrieve seven notebooks. It is revealed that our friend cannot return to school and thus sends us on this mission. As we enter the school, everything seems ordinary until the moment our protagonist solves the second notebook. At that point, chaos ensues and Baldi aggressively pursues our character. Now, let’s delve into the gameplay mechanics. The objective is relatively simple: collect all seven notebooks and find a way to escape from the confines of the school. However, we must navigate through encounters with various characters who can either hinder or aid us in this endeavor. These characters include the headmaster, generally a peaceful individual, but quick to take action if they catch us breaking any school rules. Playtime, a girl who will obstruct our progress by forcing us to participate in her jump rope activities if she notices our presence. The bully, whom we must appease by surrendering some of our possessions in order to pass unimpeded. The mop, which activates every two minutes and can assist in evading Baldi, yet can also lead him directly to us, posing an obstacle. The Sock Puppet, initially passive, but becomes a relentless pursuer once we procure all seven notebooks. If captured by the Sock Puppet, we are immediately teleported to Baldi. 1st Prize, another character who can aid us against Baldi or alternatively impede our progress if they come into contact with him. Additionally, the game offers several modes including Story, Endless, and Excursion modes. Expounding on each mode individually would extend this article excessively.

How to play?

The story begins as you find yourself wandering the corridors of a school. As you glance around, you spot an unusual figure clutching a ruler. Upon closer inspection, you recognize the silhouette as your math teacher. His primary objective is to impart fundamental knowledge to you. Consequently, you will embark on a journey through various rooms, encountering tasks that require solving. The tasks range in difficulty, some posing quite a challenge while others are relatively simple. To navigate your way through the school, you can utilize the joystick or, if you choose to download Baldi’s Basics, a few keyboard buttons will suffice. Moreover, the application includes its own unique storyline, found in a dedicated section for you to explore.

The plot centers around the predicament of our hero’s friend, who has lost their notebooks within the school. A total of seven notebooks are missing, and it is imperative for the player to retrieve them at all costs. Unfortunately, the friend is unable to assist in the search, placing the responsibility on our hero to resolve the situation and aid their companion. These vital items are scattered throughout various rooms, prompting you to scour offices, inspect desks, and investigate lockers for their whereabouts. However, our hero’s path will be frequently impeded by the math teacher, who remains fixated on their subject matter and endeavors to instill knowledge within their students. Consequently, each time you enter a classroom, you will encounter diverse puzzles or mathematical examples that require solving. It is worth noting that occasionally, the examples deliberately contain errors in the numbers, challenging the player to be observant and identify the mistakes. Baldi’s Basics acts as a kind of horror game, geared towards schoolchildren, while simultaneously promoting memory development and problem-solving skills.

Playtime. Despite her visual impairment and limited memory, she is always eager to find a playmate! “Let’s have some fun!”
Arts and Crafts. A reserved individual who prefers to stay out of the limelight. Dislikes being observed and feels envious of those who possess more notebooks than they do.
That’s a bully. In this educational institution, we firmly believe that every reputable school should have a formidable bully! Hence, we have this student filling that role!
Principal stuff. “If I witness any violations of school regulations, I will ensure that justice prevails! This meal is delightful and fills my stomach!”.
1st Prize. Emerged as the winner in the Science Fair! Enjoys embracing people, eagerly approaching anyone in sight. However, their spinning motion is quite leisurely. We must tidy up. What would you do if the school opens in just 7 hours and no janitor has been hired? Rent a broom! It sweeps away everything!
Cloud chopper. A lofty cloud that revels in its cloud-like activities. Drifts through the corridors, creating powerful gusts of wind.
Crayons. Some student sketched this face, and before you know it, it’s floating around, giggling, and causing mischief. Beans. Endeavors to impress others by blowing bubbles with chewing gum, but usually ends up spitting them out instead.
Mrs. Pomp. Struts around in high-heeled shoes while welcoming students to her class. Make sure you’re punctual!
Test. If you wish to monitor someone closely, look no further than this individual! Just don’t forget where you last encountered them!

Mods

Chaos Mode, a secret feature in the updated version of Baldi’s Basics Classic Remastered, adds a thrilling twist to the gameplay. To activate Chaos Mode, players need to input the code 11211994 on the “You Can Think” Pad in either Classic or Holiday mode. Once activated, every game started thereafter will be in Chaos Mode until the game is restarted or the code is re-entered. In this mode, each character will be cloned whenever a pad is collected, intensifying the chaos. Additionally, random events occur much more frequently, often overlapping each other in demo style.
Unlocking the Debug Mode in Baldi’s Basics Classic Remastered adds another layer of excitement to the game. Players can activate this hidden mode by entering the code 09241993 on the “You Can Think” panel in either Classic or Party style. To unlock the Debug Mode, players must first unlock the NULL style and discover the secret endings of all three styles. Once activated, every game will be in debug mode until the game is restarted or the code is re-entered, providing players with enhanced debugging abilities and a unique gameplay experience.
Step into the realm of authenticity with Authentic Mode, an elusive mode found within the updated version of Baldi’s Basics Classic Remastered, as well as in Baldi’s Basics Plus. To activate Authentic Mode, players must enter the code 10181996 on the You Can Think Pad in either Classic or Holiday mode. Once the correct code is entered, the player will be returned to the main menu, and every subsequent game will be in Authentic Mode until the game is restarted or the code is re-entered. The code for Authentic Mode can be found on the ceiling of the principal’s office when encountering Baldi there, adding an element of discovery and mystery to the gameplay.
Take on the challenge of Endless Mode, a secondary gameplay option in the Baldi’s Basics series. The objective of this mode is to collect as many notepads as possible before Baldi catches the player. Before starting the endless mode, players can choose between “Random” or “Medium” difficulty levels. In the elevator, the floor abbreviation is always displayed as “END,” regardless of the chosen option. Unlike the hide and seek game mode, Baldi behaves differently in Endless Mode. Collecting a notepad slightly reduces his speed, allowing players to outmaneuver him for a longer period and emphasizing the importance of collecting as many notepads as possible. As time passes, Baldi gradually increases in speed, but the collected notepads slow him down. Eventually, Baldi becomes so fast that evasion becomes impossible. Thus, achieving a high score in Endless Mode requires skillful collection of notepads while Baldi’s speed is still manageable. The longer the game lasts and the more notepads collected, the faster Baldi becomes overall, intensifying the challenge.
